View Full Version : Complicated slices not capped

I have noticed that when slicing complicated meshes, the slices are not capped. Instead, a hole is left through the slice. If the hole is simple, it can be fixed in designer with outline patterns and a 0 carving depth. After some experimenting, I believe the holes are due to the complicated mesh being made up of unwelded meshes. That is, the object is made of separate meshes which are not really connected. If you look very closely (in what ever 3d program you use) you will see small gaps or overlaps between separate meshes. I think you have to "weld" these meshes together before importing into the STL importer. This may be a non trivial exercise if the mesh is complicated.
Programs like 3d studio max can slice and cap these multiple meshes, so maybe we can add this to the STL importer wish list.
