i have a question about a 2 sided carve. when doing a 2 sided carve why do you flip the board width wise? doesnt it make sense to go endways that way it is measureing off the same side as the first side?

The CW measures from the end. I made the same mistake my first time. Always flip back to front.

Jason,

The board is flipped across the width. Flipping it across the length will cause issues with project alignment, especially with two-sided carves. Flipping legthways will result in the patterns being way out of line.

i know thats what your supposed to do LOL. why isnt the machine programmed to keep the top edge of the board on the board sensor, aka flipping the board length wise. wouldnt it be better that way. whenever i measure something for a layout, i always lay it out using the same edges. i dont know i guess your using one of the same edges, or does the machine measure from the same edges each time.

Jason,

If you use "place on end", you would need to flip the board as required by LHR. Otherwise it would simply be up to the Software developer as to how the flip was done - just a matter of choice in design I would think.

Designer could be setup to flip it length or width but they chose width. With so many length options like Center, Place on End, or Jog flipping length would be a pain.

Flipping width was the best choice on my opinion. Doing a 2 sided sign with the letters upside down on the back in designer works just fine.

As far as which edge is used for reference, it uses width and length, that way if you put a bigger or wider board in the machine it asks you to place it on the corner of the board.

When I setup my 2 sided signs I set the artwork on the front centered on width and use 4 inches of blank wood on the right side of designer. I cut with place on end.

After the layout is done, I copy the artwork, then I select the drill hole function and place a 1/8 inch hole on each side of the artwork showing the artwork edge.

I flip the board and paste the artwork. Flip the artwork so it is upside down and using the drill holes showing through the board align the text and art.

Flip the board back to the front and erase the drilled holes and load it to a card and I am done.

Thats one of the neat things about woodworking, there are numerous ways to accomplish the same task. AL, does his in a business thinking way, saving material, but if your making a sign with the same thing on both sides , you can just run one side, flip it ( end for end ) and run the same program again, or , in designer, make it a 2 sided project and turn the back side upside down ,then carve one side , (flip across width), and carve the other. done.

Add a arrow to the board so you know the way it loads into the CW and "flip like a page in a book" but you can use end to end 2..

Take the edge (that is laying on the brass roller) closest to the keypad and flip it toward the opposite end (away from the keypad).

Ok, got it. Would this also work for a carving of ,say a one peace bird or would it be up side down on one side? Under what I am trying to say?
