Should Belts Move?

Hi,

I've read all the threads about X axis stalling and am trying to debug my problem. My question is...should I be able to move the sandpaper belts by hand? I cannot do this and I think the gears may be gummed up somehow. The machine does not even try to move the board.

It is very, very difficult to try and move the belts by hand.

Do your belts more at all, does it sound like the motor is turning?

It doesn't seem to make any noise or move at all. I've done all the cleaning recommended by other threads and have removed the bottom and the side panel and do not see anything obvious. There was a significant amount of sawdust in the gears, but I blew it out and tried again with the same results. I'll try to get a better view into the gears this evening.

I had a 228 X axis error last night for the first time.
My board was long (6 feet) and even with the supports, the belts didn't like it.
I remove the gear cover and didn't see anything wrong with the gear or belts.
I will try again tonight.
Make sure your piece is straight and not too long (as read in another thread)

With the ratio of the gear, you shouldn't be able to move the belt by hand but by turning the gear, you should be able to move them in both direction.
