Curious if there is an easy way to set the numbers around a face of the clock so that they are accurate?

By degrees or measuring. is there a program that breaks a circl down to place numbers

Thanks and happy carving

Here's some info from "Ask Bud"

Here is an AVI lesson He made on the concept of equal spacing around a circle that may help you understand the process better.

I have a pattern in the pattern store called 12 point star. It will point to the correct location, of for free you could draw lines intersecting at the center. You will need and vertical and horizontal, the n one a 60 deg and one at 30 deg. Then just plunk the numbers one at a time where the pointer indicates. I just downloaded that video, and have to check it out.

Make your board image a square- Draw a circle - use two lines drawen from each corner.

for numbers "12" and "6"use the Y center function.

for numbers "3" and "9" use the X center function.

The other numbers are easy to eye-ball.

Folks, I don't mean to seem overly simplistic here but this is pretty easy stuff. A circle has 360 degrees. A clock, 12 numbers.

360 / 12 = 30 degrees

lines drawn at the angles 0, 30, 60, 90 give you your clock number spacing. Simply center all lines both ways. Use the angle input box to enter the angles. Whala, you have your clock layout. Takes about 30 seconds and doesn't get any easier.

heheheh I was wondering how long it might go.

LOL...I just happened to wonder in and see this Terry. I was going to let it run a bit longer but then, you know me...... I like to tackle the "tough" ones...LOL

Hey Chris.. What if it is a digital clock? hehe:)

I told a trainee once that calling traffic to an aircraft was just like reading a watch.. He didn't understand. He had a digital watch! True Story!

Traffic.. Um.. 12:03:01 nope 02 nope 03.. Dang that thing keeps changing..

He didn't make it!

With a circle and a square you can use the tools provided with the designer - no need for extra MPC's or patterns.

Use a square board make an X, draw a circle and a square

Add the numbers and you have a MPC for your clock.

That's even easier Steve. Just 6 boxes side by side that rotate...LOL...

.

Just curious but, who's using extra MPC's or patterns??

That was a good idea putting the baby's face on the clock. Looks good

Thanks, I haven't carved that one - just sent some sample photos to the lady, I haven't heard back yet.

Oval clock faces are done the same way , just make an oval , centered with your 0, 30, 60, 90 deg. lines .

Here is an easy way to position the numbers. I am uploading a Clock Dots pattern. I would call it a utility pattern. Two ways: Put the pattern on you clock face with the center dot at the center and size it from a corner to keep the the aspect ratio. You can position the dots where the numbers go, then position the numbers and drill the center hole and delete or hide the Clock Dots pattern: or you can position the outside dots just in side where the numbers go and keep them. If you keep them (my preference) be sure to add "Draft" so they will not chip out. I haven't tried this pattern, I just put it together in TurboCAD for this thread.
