I was 5 hours into a 10 hour 28 minute scan when the power momentarily failed. Does anyone know what the carvewright machine max amp draw is?

Just trying to figure out how big a battery backup system I'd need to run the machine if the power fails for less than 5 or ten minutes?

Thanks ~Mike

Mike, I run the CW on a 400w power inverter and it run fine. I think one of these would do a great job in case of power failure.

You can find more of these thing here: http://www.pricewatch.com/power/

Or hook one of these to your car battery, keep your car running and you will never have to worry about power outage :) http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=96706
or maybe this one http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=96498

They have cheaper model with lower wattage. 700w should be more than enough.

You carve with the machine using a 400watt power inverter? I thought the conversion from 1 horse power in electric motors would be 746 watts. I imagine for scanning the power requirements would be a lot less. I have a 500watt inverter that has jumpers to hook to a 12 volt battery, so a car battery and with a battery charger hooked to it should keep it going?

I think a computer battery backup would probably be a smoother, cleaner electricity than a modified sign wave inverter but I don't know that much about electricity. I'd like to try my inverter, kind of concerned about frying the Carving machine though.

Thanks ~Mike

Yes, I used a 400watt inverter and the machine run just fine.
You need to connect the inverter directly to the battery to get enough power. You can run for hours without the car engine running. The higher the wattage the better, the machine only consuming what it needed so it not gonna fry it. Higher wattage can run more equipment.
I used the inverter due to the storm hit our home town recently that knocked out the power for 5 days. They finally got the power back on this afternoon.

Problem with the inverter is you can't hook it up directly with household electrical wire as a backup source. But the ups for computer can so it keep the machine running uninterrupted when the power is out.

As I have heard, modified sign wave only effect some audio equipment that don't have the adequate filter, other then that it wont be a problem.
