I would like I know how to route the edges after the carving since I am using the 3.5 at each end but would like to not use the option of cutting out the project since you need about 1/2 inch on the key side for cut out and would like to use the full width of the board. I put the board in the cw and measure width and that is what I use in the designer so I can use the full width. But when I get done carving I try to do a edge route on all sides and when it checks for board it allows checks somewhere in the carving. Or can I do the edge route first and then carve. Not sure if it would measure width right that way. I don't have a router at home that is why I am asking

I find it easy to hand router the board after the carving is done. I have a small laminate trimmer that works very nicely.

I do the same thing, either a hand router or a table router.
I already have a dozen or more carbide bits that can do the job,
plus over time it saves a lot of wear, tear and time on the cut motor.
