For any one that might be new to design and wood carving ,like I am this is an excellent video on wood magazine

about uusing the Fibonacci gauge or just the 1 to 1.618 ratio . It has shed a new light on my designs from now on. You can also download the plan at

http://www.woodstore.net/figaandhowto.html. for a $1.99.

Bill,

Thanks for the info on this. When I was doing the layouts for my latest clock project the lady that I was doing this for mentioned this ratio for the layout. I thought she was just talking about the ratio of width to height for the over all size of the project. I had no clue to tell the truth! This brings a little more light on the subject and I will need to go back and re look at the my layout to see how my overall spacing worked out for the other items I put into the design.

Golden Section Gauge
Make your own golden section gauge using the template below. It will work best if you construct it from heavy cardboard stock or plastic. Drill holes at place a brad at each of the indicated points. When the gauge is adjusted the middle arm will always show the golden section or phi point between the two outer arms.

Note: The dimensions listed actually represent the distances between the rivets and the tips, not the lengths of the pieces. It's best to think of the gauge conceptually as being made of very fine line segments connecting at golden section points. The actual length of piece AF is thus a little longer than the distance from the rivet at A to the tip at F in order to give the rivet some room to hold. The tips of the gauge should all come together when it's closed.

Very nice work LG..

Let me know how the 1/2" adapter works. My rock is on order and hopefully Ron will get caught up soon. I am holding off on any more carvings until it get it installed.

I try to carve something out of wood. You must be the kind that just carves away the wood that is not needed. Fantastic,,,,,,

Sure thing..

Regarding the indexing issue, one idea is to buy a sleeve for each 1/4" bit, glue the router bits in the sleve as they has a stop on the bottom and slide in and out precisely..
I just need 5 ea :) but not sure if the glue wood smuck it up.

I plan on getting some brass tubing and a jewel saw and cutting some sleeves then will glue in place with CA and then buff off the run off. I use thick CA for my pen sleves and they are there forever. I think that will be a quick and cheap solution and not bother the balance either.
