Wilderness Project Question

Has anyone carved this project in Oak or Walnut?

I have carved it in Poplar and the finish is very blotchy even with the wood conditioner Micheal suggested

Thats Poplar for ya. For the nicer projects, stick with the more dense hardwoods
Walnut, maple, cherry,etc.

I will try this in some Walnut I'm just affraid that all the carving in that hard of wood will destroy my QC and ruin my adapters

Over 650 hours on my machine and 85 to 90% is on walnut and cherry.

I used Alder. It is very cherry like. Turned out great! Used Stain Prep before staining. I have not had very good luck with Poplar in the past.
