Pattern Editor vs Project Designer

Hello all,
I am new to CC/CW and am asking for some clarification. When the term Project Designer is used I understand that is a reference to the design software that comes with the CW/CC machine. When talking about the Pattern Editor I get confused. At first I thought they were interchangeable terms but am beginning to realize that is not the case. Is the Pattern Editor software that is included with the scanning probe (I don't have yet)? Is there any way to obtain the patter editor with out getting the probe or is only available with the probe?

Yes you may get just the Pattern Editor, but it's not that much more for the entire Probe package.
