Stuck head

I was having a hard time inserting a bit so I cranked the head up to the maximum height for easier access and now it wont crank back down --just clicks like when you've cranked it down against your board. Any quick fixes for this? I was tempted yet afraid to get out the pry bar.

Use the hole in the far vertical screw
to manually start the head back down
