Hey all, I have had a request to make a bed crown. Has anyone made one, seen one or had any contact with one? Looking online, looks like it will required bending the wood after carving it, but I was hoping someone might have been exposed to a project like this.

Thanks
Jeff

never tried a project like that but would assume your going to have to bend the wood after the carving...made some rounded bars and we had to bend the panels...would think it would be similar

I had to look on line to see what a bed crown is. That's a tough one, I guess you could carve it then resaw it to less then an 1/8" and then try to bend it,I did that with a Demilune table that I built http://www.pineacreswoodshop.com/9.html [look at DSCN021.jpg in the photo gallery] I built a mold out of MDF, resawed the piece and then clamped it into the mold , but this was a much larger radius. I almost think it would have to be soaked in water and steam bent, unless if you made the crown to it's shape then make the carvings and then apply them to the surface, or carve it by hand like this one http://store.wellappointedhouse.com/hamawobedcrw.html, LOL. Good luck I would like to see pictures of the final project.

LOL thanks for the thoughts and advice, but I took my own advice and said...ummmmm....perhaps you should buy one online. I don't have the equipment to do steam bending. This was a project for my daughter's sister in law. Your project turned out beautiful!
