Any Help With A Sign

Hello Everyone,
Back again for some advice. I am making plaque for the USS MIAMI (SSN 755) Chief's Quarters. I am trying to make a template of the words that are on the plaque so that I can simply put the template over the actual plaque were the letters would be cut out of the template for painting. So far I have had no luck. Any help would be greatly appreciated as always. Thanks.

Just for clarification, I am trying to cut out just the letters on the template so that I can put it over the actual plaque and paint just the letters on the plaque.

A better way would be to use centerline text and over paint the letters then sand it flush after it dried.

If you created the "words" with the text tool, click on the text, choose outline, then the letters will have paths around them. You can then delete the text altogether, select the paths, and assign a cut path to them. Flip cutout, and you're good to go.
