Image Help Please

A friend asked me to carve his units Honor Guards patch. He scanned the patch in hi res. I worked on the background, but the threads in the pic look bad in Designer.
I'd appreciate any tips on smoothing the threads to get a decent image in Designer.

Hello, doesn't pattern editor have commands blur and smooth?
I seem to r ember something in there that I used a while back.

I have one, but the honor statement on the bottom is a little different. This is from the USAF site. Hope this helps.
