Lots of Jewelry Boxes out there, but haven't been able to locate a project or file to build a silverware chest. Sort of like a big jewerly box with a lower drawer in it. If anyone happens across something like that please let me know.

Thanx,
Dan

Dan,

Does the drawer have to be a certain size? Does it have to have all of the gadgetry that a regular cabinet drawer has?

Alex,

No extra gadgetry (simple wood slide(s) for the drawer). The box would have to handle standard knives forks spoons, ete. There a rare few plans out on the Internet for these chests, but they appear to be not much more than a large jewelry chest with some dividers in them and a drawer (or two) for the larger serving pieces. Most of the ones I've seen handle a service for 12. With the number of heirloom silverware services that must be floating around, I'm confused why it is so hard to find plans for these chests. The one my wifes grandfather (hand) made is falling apart, which led me to my question (or quest).

Maybe we can get someone to modify one of the jewelry box plans. I myself know what you are talking about, but haven't actually seen any plans.

Your looking for something like this, right?

I would be happy to pay a fair price for anyone that would be willing to put a project file together on this. It would be a great CW project and I would like to be able to modify thinigs like adding dates and names on the lid (shouldn't be too hard).

Yes, I agree with you that this shouldn't be a difficult issue the number of jewelry box plans that are out there.

Yes, that is exactly it! Lee Valley has plans for one that is also similar, but more a multi drawer design. There is a more basic one at one of the big woodworkers sites.

They want 14 dollars for just the plan??????

I think I might start selling some of the stuff I draw up as a second job!

Alex,

It sounds like you have never used an architect:)

If I wanted to pay sometone 14 dollars for something I can design, I would be crazy!

Therein lays the basis of our free enterprise system. I do not have the talent (or time) to to design something like that and am happy to pay the $14 for the plans. Happier still, to pay some enterprising young man (maybe you) to make a CW project and post for sale. I would be your first customer. :>)

Don't forget about the special cloth lining to help deter the tarnishing on the silverware.
