Hello,
This project features a set of “Christmas Cookie” tree ornaments for you to enjoy or give away as gifts to friends and family. There are 8 “decor” ornaments and 8 “plain” ornaments.
The “decorated” ones can be painted within the raised areas and the “plain” ones can be decorated with “puff paints” available at any hobby store (the puff paint resembles frosting applied with a tube tip). You can get the whole family involved when painting/decorating these ornaments! Each ornament is about 3" x 4" in size.
This project uses just the 1/16" Carving Bit and the 1/8" Cutting Bit. No other bits are required.
Main items you will need:
1) The Project Files (included):
• 1-Cookies-Decor.mpc
• 2-PLAIN_Cookies.mpc
• 3-Cookies-Decor.mpc
• 4-PLAIN_Cookies.mpc
2) Boards with the following dimensions:
Each MPC Board Size is: 0.5" x 5.5" x 24"
NOTE: Do not use boards that are smaller than specified above. Make certain your boards are a TRUE 0.5" thick - boards less than a true 0.5" thickness will NOT work.
3) Small screw eyes for installation into the top of each ornament, decorative ribbon to hang ornaments if desired
4) Sandpaper, wood stain and/or paint, dimensional fabric puff paint, clear finish
5) A Dremel-type rotary tool with assorted sanding wheels and bits to sand small details and speed up preparation for finishing.
Apply stain/paint and clearcoat of your choice. Here’s what I used on my Christmas Cookie Ornaments made from Clear Pine:
All cookies (mpc’s 1, 2, 3, 4):
• 2 coats of Bulls Eye SealCoat, sanding between coats
(thinned... 2 parts sealer/3 parts Denatured alcohol)
• Sanded off any remaining fuzzies
• Applied 2 light coats of Krylon Clear gloss, 1 coat flat
“Plain” cookies (mpc’s 2 and 4):
• Brushed on White acrylic craft paint on the raised flat “frosting area”
• Applied details with squeeze-on “puff” paint (just like decorating real cookies!)
“Decor” cookies (mpc’s 1 and 3):
• Brushed on various colors of acrylic craft paint onto select areas
