Help, attached is a pattern that I'm trying to get into a larger mpc for a VN vet. The picture is the mascot that was painted on all the birds they flew but I just can't get it to look that good. It was taken from a photo that was taken in 1972 and he was the door gunner and it was another bird that was shot down and he walked away for the third time. Can anyone help?

    Mike,

You are going to have to get a better picture to start from. I don't recognize anything in the figure.

I'm assuming that you have looked for better pictures, could there be something on the web?

It might help if we had a picture of what it was supposed to look like.

I've attached the photo as I received it but this is the only picture that is available as far as I know. Again this was taken in Vietnam around 72 or73.
    thanks,

If you take this photo to a photo restorer it could be something to work with. Even one of our forum Pals might volunteer the skills to bring it to life so you have something to carve properly. I am not that good with jpg carvings, but I have seen others post very nice mpc's from photos.

    Just a thought.

The reason for the devil insignia was that they were called devil guns when they would fly into a hot LZ, or in other words their guns were hot and giving it all they could. My friend was door gunner and was shot down three times and walked away eack time. This png is only a small part of a larger mpc that I'm making up for him.
    Thanks

I've been working on this thing all day off and on playing around with the numbers and anything else I can think of.

I took the pic into Paint and played a little.
I started by "Inverting" the colors. Then I eliminated the heat coming from his mouth. I then outlined him, in White (you could/would continue to make all you do not want White).

I then imported the pic into CW and clicked Invert and clicked "lower" until I eliminated some of the background (in your case, do as much as you want). Once you like it, Save it to your file.

My test Pic and Import are attached.
