Yes, that is true... and also a pinched board sensor wire will knock out the 5 volts too and give a open cover... You can un plug the board sensor wire at the top and see if the open cover gets fixed.

You tried turning the connector around? White wire toward the center?

Favorite Saying.... "It's ALL About the Brass Roller"..... And "Use MASKING TAPE" for board skipping in the X or breaking bits.

Did you try disconnecting the FFC ribbon from the head termination board?

On the cover there are a couple of tabs that depress the switches when you close the cover. Push the switch with something that will fit in the opening where the tab usually makes contact with the switch, do you still get the error message? Determine if the switch is bad, test the switch with a multimeter.

did you ever resolve your close cover issue? if so what did you do? I got the same issue.
Switches check out ok, new fcc cable, new board sensor( haven't done continuity on wires to board sensor or cover switches.)
Problem started when swapped fcc cable and board sensor.

When does the error occur? Right at the start or during a carve?

The Close Cover Error is for the switch on the left front hinge. It is the Controller Cut-off Switch, not the cut motor. Cut motor switch clicks also, but it is on the right.

This sounds like the classic Al problem of the board sensor wire pinched inside the z truck. You may have pulled too hard on it when you changed the board sensor. To trouble shoot, unplug the sensor wire from the z board.
