Thread: How to replacate wood window casing?

  1. #1

Question How to replacate wood window casing?

I am restoring a 130+ year old house. I am trying to match a piece of window molding that I couldn't find in the box stores. I was thinking I might replicate it with my carvewright. Or if someone else has an idea I could use any help you have.
If I can bother you for a minute. Maybe I am not thinking this through correctly. I have worked on this for 2 days and I know it is not right. I just cant get it to look the same. The board is 1 inch thick by 5 1/2 wide. I an sorry the pictures are not very clear and if you need a particular angle just let me know. I am using the basic designer program. I just cant get designer to produce the rolling indents. If someone can help me out I would greatly appreciate it.

Can you take a thin slice and scan it to produce a cross sectional image. I could trace it and use extrude to make a pattern.

Scanning it with a ruler beside it would be good.

Here is a quick attempt. The scan was fuzzy and I had to rotate it. See what you think.
