    Default Raster letters query

When I design text in the Raster mode, it seems as though a slight, albeit very slight, amount of material is removed from the "surface" of the letters during the carving.

Any way to leave the surface essentially untouched?
    Using 1.187

    Thanks.

I have used to use a shim for the bit touch. Something like a box cutter blade. You can also just lift the head a little after the touch.

One trick is to add a thin piece of material, a shim, to the surface of the board when it is doing the "finding surface" set during the set up.

Makes perfect sense. Will give that a shot. Not critical on this carve, but would be nice to have up my sleeve next time I end up carving material where I want the surface to remain untouched.

Thanks for your time and guidance........again!

Another good thing to know is that carve regions which are completely at 0.00 get "jumped" over. Not so good for text, but good for other things.

Have noticed that, as I tend to use the zero-depth carve quite often. With the letters having a height of 100, kinda expected the same result - but not so, hence the query.

    Thanks again!!

Have you tried that? I would not expect that to work. 999 is the same as 100 if the pattern is already at the top. Great trick if it works!

What you can do is outline the text and then make all the outlines zero carve regions. The outlines, however, are poor unless you make the text really big before the outlining. I am not sure how well this would work.
