    Question Carved Text Stepping

Any ideas as to why the text on my carve started stepping up towards the keyboard side of the board. I've attached a copy of the .mpc and a picture of the ruined carve. When I try a recarve, I'm going to change the font I used for the large numbers (address). I don't like how it looks. Going to use Black Chancery.
The two roses on the .mpc carved just fine, I cut them off of the ruined carve and then took a picture of what was left.

The "Y" encoder is the rotating disc on the rear of the "Y" motor isn't it?

Lots of burning in the hard wood text, so my thinking is 1. dull bit and 2. the Y gear box bearings...

The Y gears are ok, I checked them today. As for a dull bit, I'll look into that the next time I'm in the shop.
    Thanks.

I would say the bit is definitely the problem. It is probably dull, tut it looks like you used a round bit, not a V bit. A dull bit will grab and jump on a climb cut, and with centerline the climb can be either to or away from the keyboard, A dull bit on a raster carve will always jump toward the keyboard side.
