The Carvetight is all one spindle, the chuck cannot come loose from the spindle. Maybe your tolerance ring slipped out. Do you see a thin circular strip of corrugated metal in the bottom of the machine somewhere? When you wiggle the chuck, does the bottom bearing move? The tolerance ring is a spacer which wraps around the bearing.

This is what the Tolerance Rings look like,
I had the lower one on my machine drop out a couple times,
a few years ago -- before the Rock or Carvetight were available.

Where is the spring clip on the top of the spindle? Did you take it off? If the spring clip was missing, that might be the problem. The spring clip holds a side load on the bearings and keeps it all tight. I cannot tell from the pictures whether the bottom tolerance ring is gone or not. If you cannot find the tolerance ring, it may just be the clip. But where is that? How did the flex shaft break?

i took the spring clip off after i saw the chuck was moving.

I have no idea how the flex shaft broke. it wasnt running hot or anything.
i took the flex shaft off to check out the chuck and it looked like there was a really long spring wrapped around the flex shaft.

The spring is called a silencing spring. It is a long spring between the flex shaft and the sheath. Is the flex shaft broken or is it just that the spring is wrapped around it? You may be able to buy just the spring if the flex shaft is still in one piece. If it were me, I would tap out the spindle and have a look at the bottom bearing. Block the truck from below and try gently tapping out the shaft with a soft punch. Be careful not to obstruct the bottom bearing as it comes out with the spindle. If it does not come out with gentle tapping see the "spindle puller" thread. Maybe you will get lucky and only have to buy a spring and tolerance ring or bearing. Let us know how it goes.

I would say you need a new Flex.
It appears the the shaft is damaged, the spring has flown apart, and the outer sheath(s) may be damaged as well from all the other damage.
