Here is a picture of the Bearings, there are 2.....

If the hole is on top of the gear box, it is just the one used to snug the belt when the gearbox is used in a Z Motor....

The Tension on the right is easily worked with if you remove the right side cover. It is similar to the one on top of the Z with a spring to hold things...

Something I was meaning to post the other day and forgot.... I had my Y doing some strange stuff... Jerking and reversing directions when going over to touch the bit plate... Cleaned the rails, rollers, belt and thought I had it... Then it happened again..... It turned out to be the idle gear on the right side... It is needing to be replaced soon... It wobbles slightly.

I pushed on it and it snapped back in about a 1/16 of an inch.... I think it was extended and was caught up on the C Clip.... One of the other machines was missing the clip and it wobbled so bad I replaced it... Ran true with no clip...

So check the idle roller.... I also add that to my oil list when I am cleaning the machine.

I added the pictures. In the New and OLD Z picture you can see the hole on top for the tension screw and spring.

In the picture without the bearing showing the back you can see the hole does not go through to the bearing.

Remember if you have a OLD Z Bundle that the Gear Box can be used on ANY motor.... Parts is PARTS.... That circuit board on the one without the bearings must be swapped as this is for the OLD Z.

About 6 months ago someone posted the bearing size and a place to buy them on the forum...

    No numbers on the bearings.

I am getting a internal of 4.8 mm 0.19 inch My plastic internal caliper is resting on the sides of the U of the inside race so the measurement is off slightly. Believe it is really 5 mm.
External of 11 mm 0.43 inch
    Thickness 5 mm 0.19 inch

The worn big plastic gear shaft measures 5 mm on the end and 4.7 near the gear in the floppy end....

Favorite Saying.... "It's ALL About the Brass Roller"..... And "Use MASKING TAPE" for board skipping in the X or breaking bits.

Four Sears CarveWright Machines and looking for more....

Looking to buy Broken Machines to add to my collection.

You are correct on the bearing size of 5x11x5mm. The problem was that one of the two bearings in the gear box was shot. But what I believe happened is (to make a long story short) is: While having another issue (turned out to be a bad powersupply) a tech told me to tighten the y axis belt so that there was very little deflection when pushing down on the belt. This is what I believe what caused the bearing to fail. Stated this to LHR and they are sending me a new y motor assembly. Good to see they will come to the plate every now and then. After the last few months I feel that I can work on the machine better and know more about it than some of the techs, which is sad to say. While on the phone trying to diagnose the last problem Y and z axis stalls (which turned out to be the fore mentioned powersuply I could hear the tech flipping pages and asking me to do things that I dpn't think were associated withe the stalls at all. Oh well enough of my bitching, so thenk you LHR for making good on what could have been the end of my carving ventures with the carvewright.

Glad to see LHR took care of you gumbo. My machine gave me a y axis stall the other day. Have been at the station and not been able to take a look at it. Hopefully mine is just the bearings.
