    Default Height question

I am doing a recessed carve from a pattern I created.

The depth of cut is .25, the height is 999, I want the top of the of the pattern even with the work surface. I have a medium draft angle set.

    Carve region is not set.

The pattern cuts just fine. But the entire region of the pattern is .007 recessed from the work surface. The tool cut path cuts the entire pattern shape and recesses the whole pattern shape.

Any ideas on how to keep pattern at the work surface level?

    Thanks

    Joe

The tolerance of the Z axis is about 0.010" so your not likely to get it 'exact'. That software and machine also work in increments of 1/128" (0.0078"), so there could be some rounding error involved as well. With that being said, if the pattern is not occupying the entire 1-255 bit range, say it only goes up to 200, you could loose a little height there as well.

Set the option "jog to height check" to on so you can choose where the tip will touch the board to measure its thickness. Then place a piece of plastic or metal of the desired thickness offset and jog the tip so that the machine will check the thickness on said piece of plastic/metal. The machine will think the board is thicker than it actually is. Don't forget to remove the piece of plastic/metal before starting the actual carve.

    Thanks for the tips.

Jeff, I have checked the height in the pattern editor and it is 255.

Good tip Pratyeka, I will try that.

    Thanks

The one thing you have not reported is the depth in designer. Move to mouse over the part of the pattern you think should be at 0.000 and see what designer says it is. Look at the coordinates at the bottom left. The z value may be 0.008. I notice this happens when you invert.

    Thanks bergerud,

It does indeed indicate that the depth is .008. How do you correct this situation?

    Thanks
