Thread: QC wiggle

    Thumbs down QC wiggle

I just replaced a old QC " screw backed out and bent the flange" and repalced the bit with a new adapter.

After I installed the new QC I checked the play, the Bit wiggles in the socket! also the CW is making more noise.

Make sure it's the adapter that's wiggling, not the bit itself.

That happened to me over the weekend, cutting bit worked loose - I got lucky and didn't break it.

in this case all new all glued.

I even glue the bit to the adapter like i like to do, so if i loose a screw "like it just did" the bit will still keep working utill i
    stop it.

anyone know if the play in the QC and bit goes away under speed?

I have the same story with a replacement QC that I had to purchase because QCs are not covered under the CW warranty. My original QC had a failure in the little screw inside the QC. The replacement QC ruined 3 of my adapters before I figured out it was a bad QC. LHR is sending me another replacement QC at no charge, but they are on backorder. I have been waiting over 2 weeks.

I would lube up the QC and with no bit in it do the sling shot.... Snapping the outer sleeve. It could be a manufacturing error or some contamination. Even some lock tite getting inside the QC from the mounting threads.

Are you sure the lower bearing metal damper did not fall out and you missed it. Remember the metal corrugated sleeve around the lower bearing.

The only other option is to replace it.

Any chance that is was a new used part.... I have gotten some parts from LHR that were used but sold as new. They replaced or adjusted the price no problem but I think they may part out machines and especially since they refurb the Z Trucks. Did the QC look Virgin?

I got Cut Motor Brushes that were 1/2 worn and some Roller Bearings that were still dirty and a used Z Truck. The Z Truck was refurbished and LHR corrected the price.

Honest errors just happen.... A new guy cleaning up, tosses a part into a bin....

Dragoncarver - The tech support person did not know when QCs would become available. I hope the time they are taking means they are making better QCs.

Boy, do I hate to hear that LHR doesn't have QC's. I just finished a carve and couldn't get the bit out but could move the bit/adapter back and forth a good quarter inch. I haven't taken the QC off yet but this QC only had about 12 hours on it...and it ruined the adapter (BB marks now). When I checked about a week ago I couldn't buy adapters either. So looks like I'm going to be down for quite sometime to come.

Also, the cut motor has started revving up when pushing enter...do I have other problems starting...CC machine has over 200 hours on it? Anyone want to give me ideas in a private message. SharonB
