Jim, Jim, Jim ... You're looking at this all wrong.
Go out and buy the CW machine, don't ask for permission. It's important to have priorities, and to understand that we only get one trip around...
The machine is the same.
I have bought my machines from Sears for two reasons:
1. 90 day return policy.
2. As a Craftsman Club member, I get the discount price when the machine goes on sale. ...
Try another board.

Post pictures and pricing!

I did have to finish sand a bit, but that may not have been necessary, as the edges are generally pretty smooth right out of the CW.
To cut out the parts, you just need to import and then set a...
The clocks I've made have been based on mechanics that I don't have permission to post. However, I am working on a completely original wooden clock that's tailor-made for the CW machine. Besides ......
I've cut out a clock or two, and they even work!
The issues that I ran into - and that you will, too - is that it's impossible to create a concave corner. You're using a drillbit, so the concave...
As some of you know, I use my CW machine less for 3D art carvings than I do for cutting out parts. The biggest project I'm on is building a 70% scale P-38 Lightning so that I can fly around and...
My CW says it was The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance.
Your pilgrim,

Yep. Exactly. As I said, John Wayne wasn't born until 1930. Marion Morrison may have been born in 1907, but John Wayne didn't exist until 1930 when first created by Raoul Walsh ("Wayne") and...
Looks great!
...but you do know that John Wayne wasn't - technically - born until 1930, right?
Your pal,
Meat.
I don't know about that; the general rule of thumb is about 4" on each end (I include a fudge factor, just in case). Using up 20" of wood to do a 6" carving seems kind of wasteful...
...just my...
Not really a response to the above post ... I just like seeing "Meat's right" as often as possible, and wanted to point it out to anyone reading this.
Not just because it's true ... but also...
Neat trick!
You can also use tape on the edges of the wood (rather than covering the whole thing). Blue painter's tape for wood that's too light, regular ol' masking tape for wood that's too dark....
Yes, I have cut veneers and all kinds of thin materials on the CW. You do have to have a minimum thickness of 1/2", so you will have to either (a) build a sled or do it the lazy Meat way: to cut...
Well, your picture is too big for the board to start with. the CW is going to want to resize the carving to a more managable size.
To fix this, I'd recommend getting a bigger board, or making the...
Yep. Put together a few clocks.
I originally got the machine specifically to cut out ribs and parts for a P-38 replica I'm building, and it's been great at doing everything I've asked of it.
...
One word: Golumpkis. Apparently, if you can make this dish (it's not that hard), you're golden with the folks from the old country.

I don't imagine it would be too terribly difficult to do on some of his pieces.
Much of his work was done as woodcuts, engravings or lithotint - all of which can probably be reproduced like the...
Dude ... is IS your portable shop! Wheels and a trailer hitch and you're ready to roll! :D
And did I mention their forum? The help you get from the actual guy who started the whole thing, the...
ShopBot you say..?
Have you been to their forum? All kinds of helpful posts, camaraderie and community over there! Found some good info on the CW machine and Corian there, too!
Your pal,
Meat.
If it's hardcoded the way posted above, that won't work.
Your pal,
Meat.
CW just needs to modify their software to launch the default browser.
Until then, you're going to have to install it exactly where CW says to install it otherwise you're not going to be able to...
Looks terrific!
For the clock, you had to countersink the back a bit, right? Did you do that on the CW or separately? I've built a few clocks and get my movements from Klockit. I like the hands...
