Corian or cast acrylic and you can buy it from CW in the store under material. Say Joe didn't you sell your machine? Or did you have more then one? Just curious!

Here is a thread and this guy usually has some good deals on corian http://forum.carvewright.com/showthr...ghlight=corian
I have used both corian and cast acrylic....make sure it is CAST acrylic, otherwise it will melt, gum up on your bit and break it. Both gives excellent results. You can go here and see some of the ones I've carved and how I make my light box. http://s881.photobucket.com/albums/a...%20Lithopanes/

Hey Jerry
Do you carve in reverse on the backside or regular carve on the front?

I have several 4X6 pieces of plastic originally used for a sign on my drugstore can I assume it is cast acrylic and suitable for lithos or is there a way to determine if it's plexiglass?
Dan, I carve on the front, just import the pic, edit the edges, set depth & heigth and carve on best....... I try and always use a sled when I carve.
DLThompson, I would not assume anything, at the price of a new carving bit it's just not worth it. I you do decide to try I'd stay right there and watch the entire carve, there should be nothing sticking to the carving bit.

Another source for cast acrylic, 12 x 24, most of the cast acrylic is 1/8th – some ¼ inch.

The plastic sheets I have are an opaque white with the store lettering applied to the surface. I haven't seen plexiglass that isn't clear. I have a projocet I want to try this weekend and looking for imput. I have a CC with very few hours. Recently ordered the carvetight chuck haven't installed yet. I took a photo converted to grey scale and inverted using Photoshop set carve depth of .150 height 400 and is ready to go.
I worked in a sign shop for quite some time, and I can tell you that plexiglass comes in any number of colors. Another source for corian is places where they make corian counters and sinks. The sink cutouts make a good size to cut down to size for carving. Don't take chances on a plastic you are not sure of. As has been said earlier, it is not worth the cost of a bit replacement.
