I was reading the original thread for clipart to carving by Chris. I've been trying to get a few images cleaned up for use in designer and whatever techniques he is using are probably exactly what I need to learn..
Has anyone found a tutorial online that describes using image editing/illustration software to achieve that level of results? I have found plenty of tutorials on making line art versions or tracing vectors from bitmaps, but nothing as specific to creating the really clean version of an image required by designer.
*edit* I guess I should add that I normally need to take a small .gif/.jpg file that may only be a few inches and enlarge that image to 16"-20". I've been doing this for several years and then routing the designs by hand using a Colt router and dremel, but I'd like to relegate those duties to my carvewright machine. I figure that by turning that small image into a vector based image first, it should be possible - but maybe I'm wrong?
I've used a few of these tutorials to achieve pretty decent results but when the patterns are imported into designer, any artifacts in the design become very obvious! Is the only way to clean this up to go in and pixel by pixel ? Yikes
It's funny, I figured I would need to learn the ins and outs of "Designer" but now I find out I have to learn, in-depth, how to use Photoshop and Illustrator ( or in my case, GIMP and INKSCAPE)... Time to enroll in a college course or two? LOL!
