You can restart a carving that has stopped. Open the project back up in Designer and place a rectangle over the area that was already carved. Now make the rectangle a zero height carve region. This will mask it off so the machine will not try and carve that area again.

Note: This tip about restarting a carve has been mentioned many times. It is one of hundreds of useful pieces of information that can e found by using the forum's 'Search' tool. Search can be your best friend.

Hello,

The error could have been caused by...

1) The board was too thick (i.e., over 1" with a cutpath)

2) A power fluctuation from the power company (which you may not have been able to notice)

3) The machine shares a circuit with another appliance that came on during the carve and caused a power fluctuation

4) A vacuum was used and discharged static electricity to the machine

5) Gremlins

At this point, you have no choice but to re-run the project.

You may be able to salvage what has already been carved by altering your design... either by deleting elements already finished and running the project from that point on the board that is already partially carved - or, by placing a zero-depth carve region over the area that has already been carved, then run the project again, using your original board.

A few folks have been successful with those methods and usually works out pretty well.

All the Best...

5) Gremlins

Mike,

You talking about these guys?

Just kidding.

My guess would be static or an electrical discharge. Would more than likely have to run the entire project over again.

Could be just the contrast setting on the keypad - using the tip of your finger, turn the black knob counter-clockwise - that may clear the problem up....

My machine gave me "reinsert card" warning 3 different times, half way through a deep carve. pressed enter every time. Someone with a sense of humor at software factory(yes those little guys). The carve had several negative merge carves. I just disregarded pattern.

The row of blocks on the display is a sign that the machine does not see the card at all (same as not inserting the card.) Inspect the the card mating socket on the machine and the holes in the end of the card. It is also possible that a static discharge damaged the card. I recommend that while vacuuming the machine remains plugged in and one hand stays on a metal part of the machine. This prevents a static charge build up.

Oh, one other thing I just thought of. Make sure none of the ribbon cables were knocked loose.
