I installed under vista and went through the upgrade process to v.1.12.

I get the message, 'gui.exe has stopped working' and then the the program crashes.

This happens whether I open an existing project or start new.

Any thoughts or insights are welcome... besides the 'lose windows' suggestion...lol

TY in advance.
Rob

Hey,

Idon't have vista but, this topic has come up before. If you do a search for "windows Vista" you can find some info. Not sure if it will help your problem. Mike

You've got some other sort of problem. I have Vista on a laptop, 1g ram and haven't had a problem yet.

I periodically get that message when I close the software - using Windows XP

I am running Fixta I mean Vista on my laptop I only have 512 of RAM the program runs fine for the most part does hesitate and stall allittle but only crashes like you say when I do a circle, oval or serpentine then right after I select what I want it sometime goes into that gui mumbo jumbo. Tech people call it "graphic universal interchange" or something like that. But I have posted this issue before and some of the other members gave me some things to try one is I went out and bought a 2g micro flash drive and installed that but you have to buy one that has ready boost capabilities. It does help speed things up a little with out adding more RAM.How ever more RAM is a better way to go just more expensive. The other thing to try and I have not figured it out yet is there is a way to alter the way vista runs and you can have it run in xp mode or 2000 mode. There is a post that discribes what to do and how to do it just haven't had time to do it.
Hope this helps Wish I could remeber where all this was posted. So you might want to try and do a search.

I am using Vista and the only time I get that error is when I let my screen saver kick on or I hit the sleep button. Another problem I have is the zoom button. I gives me several grey lines across the screen. If I scroll the screen down then back up they go away.

I am using the software on Vista Home Premium. I can not work with many of the character fonts without crashing the gui.exe.

I used the trial version on Vista with little problems. I'm now using the registered version on XP and seemed to be getting this error quite often. Note to self: "Save your work".

There have been a few posts regarding this in the past, and I believe the fix was a newer video driver...(at least it was with XP) If Windows update doesn't have a new driver, try the manufacturer of the video card to see if there is anewer version...

Phil,

Although a new driver for your video card should correct that problem (should be downloadable from the maker), you can, in the meantime just hit the F5 Refresh key and that should do it without having to do any scrolling.

I have been running Vista since it started and I haven't had a problem. However, I'm running a duo CPU and 4 gigs of ram, with a 512 meg video card. Vista seems to want a lot of RAM it's trys to put all of the programing into memory to speed things up. Vista really does run better with a lot of RAM. If I could get 8 gigs into the machine I would...
Most laptops can take 2 gig of RAM. Try installing a bit more and see what happens.

I think you're right John. My new Vista dual processor laptop with 1gig ram (son said was enough!) struggles. I've improved performance some with a 2gig USB jump drive that will use 'ready boost'. New ram in my future!

Try right clicking on the program and use Run as administrator or if all else fails turn user account controls off..I have some programs that will not run right on vista unless this is done...turning off user account controls does shut down all security in that area and you need to reboot you computer every time you turn them on or off..Its a pain but it works sometimes but run as administrator is pretty easy so I'd try that first
