I am trying to learn ArtCam 8 and I am having trouble understanding a part of one of their tutorials.
Does anyone have the set of tutorials that is 298 pages long?? I am in the section on "Creating a Relief from a Bitmap" using the bird in the tree picture. I am stuck on #15.

Hello Steven,
Contact your ArtCAM Dealer - they are required to offer Tech Support and are very knowledgeable.
Are you an ArtCAM Advantage Member? If so, you should also have complete access to all the DVD's of tuts, free models, and such, from the ArtCAM User Group sessions as well as the ongoing monthly tips and models. The ArtCAM User Forum is also a great place to ask questions specific to ArtCAM (not so much here on the CarveWright forum).

Thanks Michael, I am more or less aware of all this, but I am still a Demo version user at the time. So I am just looking for some simple help without going through all that. Most of that I can't do any way because I am not a registered user, yet!!

Hopefully Designer will release a "G" version someday and you can use it on your mill, I truly feel bad for anyone that owns Art Scam and needs to run it..

LG,
I take it you don't like ArtCAM?

I installed the new demo yesterday and it's still wacky and slow. Be glad you have Designer. I would not even use it if it was free to me for testing.
Just read the Art Scam forum chat for a bit, makes the CW forum look really good. :)
P.S
No disrespect to the guys that use it, more power to you. You deserves a award for long suffering :)

Speaking of Artcam. I know it is highly expensive around $9000 and I read that their yearly license fee is $1200. That really shows the small fee of $!50 for Carvers Club is a true bargain!

I have a new mill coming so I need to find something. I have been looking around but not settled on anything yet. Any ideas? The mill will be GCode driven thru Mach3.

At this time if i had a bigger CNC I would look at Visual mill but its more about what your designing and how fast you need to make it. Designer has the 3D/raster patterns making and importing down, quick and smart but it not going to cut 2" thick in one pass that's ok as I not into making 50 guitars a day just 1 a week or two.
I am not endorsing this product, but seem like a good start:

Well, I guess this answers my question about eventually buying Art....what do you call it......Scam!!
Back to the drawing board with looking for a good software package to design patterns.
Besides, I would rather have something that is accepted by others on this board so that we can help each other and not pass the buck to the software developer. My next try is going to be Zbrush.

Anyone have experience with VCarve Pro, Cut3D or Cut2D for CNC work?
They are not as expensive and look pretty good.
Thanks,

You might want to try RhinoNC http://www.rhino3d.com/resources/display.asp?language=&listing=4476
I don't know how easy it is compare to art scam but give it a try. autodesk.com also has 3ds max which is one incredible 3d modeling and everything you can imagine of. except for generating gcode for cnc.

I see nothing wrong with Art Cam at all and it is plenty fast... Liquid are you using a new system? The software should move as fast or faster than designer, it does for me. Actually, I like it much better than designer.
